The Perfect Weekend Getaway

You might have considered a getaway to Mississippi, but gotten stuck in the planning stage. What would you do during your stay? The wonderful thing about Grenada is that it’s situated right between Memphis and Jackson along a generous hour’s scenic drive on Route I55, offering the accessibility of an urban space with the remote feel of the rural South.

If you’re looking for charming lodgings, consider Grenada’s historic Bed & Breakfast, Lofts on the Square. Or stay at the Postmaster’s Quarters, located in Grenada’s historic post office. With over 700 hotel rooms, we’re confident that you’ll find the perfect accommodations for your stay.

Arrive in the evening and take a drive across the Grenada Dam, one of the two largest earthen dams in the world. See the spectacular sunsets at Grenada Lake and get your bearings. Before turning in for the evening, check out Molly’s Place to enjoy a lovely craft beer and delicious eats. Don’t worry about getting lost–it’s right around the corner from Lofts on the Square and Postmaster’s Quarters.

During the summer, stop at Square Market for a steaming cup of espresso and a tasty scone. Stroll through the Grenada Farmer’s Market from 7:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. on a Saturday, then wander down the block to see antiques and resale items offered by Caldwell Winchell & Company, The Nest Egg, and others. Need a dress? Check out First Impressions, Gar & Co. Sunday Best, or Engagement. Whatever the occasion we have got you covered. Don’t forget to visit well-known artist Robin Whitfield at her studio for some spectacular paintings of Mississippi’s landscape and ecosystems.

Ready for lunch? Grab a sandwich or salad at Square Market, or set off in search of barbecue at Jake and Rip’s or High on the Hog. Are you looking for adventure? Head to Grenada Lake for some guided fishing, or over to Chakchiuma Swamp for kayaking and a nature walk. When you’re hungry again, enjoy dinner at Molly’s Place, where you can feast on delicately seared tuna, a perfectly cooked ribeye, or a juicy hamburger. Be prepared for people to ask you where you’re from! Not to mention pepper you with ideas for more things to do in Grenada.

For Sunday’s lunch, why not grab ingredients for a picnic at Spain’s Grocery and head for Grenada Lake? Or, if you can handle the crowd, head to Pap’s for a down-home Mississippi plated lunch, featuring the best fried chicken you’ll ever eat. You’ll definitely need a nap before heading back home.
